STOCKTON —  Exports for Modesto and Stockton-area companies in 2015 were up 10 percent, according to a report released today by the U.S. Department of Commerce. In fact, each city set a personal best. Stockton reached a record $1.5 billion. Modesto’s exports were $1.9 billion.

“Exports continue to be a source of growth for the Stockton economy” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. “Stockton is one of 63 metropolitan areas across our nation that set a record for goods exports last year.”

“There’s no surprise that areas in the Central Valley show increased exports,” said U.S. Commercial Service Central Valley Director Glen Roberts. “The agribusiness is one of our areas leading exports. With a global population in excess of nine billion, technologies to produce food and conserve water will always be in high demand.”

In Stockton, the key merchandise export categories included agricultural products, processed foods and beverages and tobacco products.

The top export categories in Modesto were products in the food manufacturing, machinery manufacturing and transportation equipment manufacturing sectors.
