Piracy not limited to high seas

Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” was the most pirated movie in 2014.

Piracy was alive and well among Hollywood movies in 2014. “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Frozen” were the two most pirated movies according to piracy tracking firm Excipio.

Between Jan. 1 and Dec. 23, 2014, The Wolf of Wall Street, a film about an amoral stock trader in the 1980s, was stolen more than 30.035 million times through illegal downloads. The children’s movie “Frozen” was close behind with 29.919 million illegal downloads.

Others that were among the top-5 most pirated movies included “RoboCop” (29.879 million downloads, although those stats included downloads of the original as well as the 2014 reboot), “Gravity” (29.357 million downloads) and the “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” (27.627 million downloads).

Top-20 most ported movies were downloaded more than 483 million times.
