Clik here to view.STOCKTON — University of the Pacific economist Jeffrey Michael will present findings about the Northern San Joaquin Valley at the first State of the North San Joaquin Valley conference Tuesday at the University Waterfront Plaza Hotel.
The conference will include highlights from the North San Joaquin Valley Index, a 72-page publication, that looks at the current state of the economy for the the North San Joaquin Valley (NSJV), which is made up of San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Merced counties.
The Center for Business and Policy Research in the Eberhardt School of Business at Pacific has discovered that the NSJV is its own, distinct economic region. However, the political and business communities don’t typically recognize it as such. As a result, when economic development, policy and planning processes are organized above the county level, the NSJV is typically grouped with the much larger San Joaquin Valley or Central Valley, and the NSJV’s importance as the transportation and logistics hub of Northern California is overlooked.
The presentation will explain what sets the NSJV apart from the rest of the Valley.
The index looks at the economy, the people and society in the NSJV, and the NSJV as a place.
Anyone interested in attending can register at 2015 NSJV@EVENTBRITE. The conference begins at 8 a.m. and there is a catered networking reception after.
