UHaulMANTECA — Manteca was named the ninth fastest growing city in 2015, according to The U-Haul Top 10 U.S. Growth Cities for 2015. The rankings are determined by the net gain of incoming one-way U-Haul truck rentals versus outgoing rentals for the past calendar year.

Local U-Haul locations saw 56.3 percent of its customers coming into the city as opposed to those leaving. That accounted for a 60 percent spike in U-Haul arrivals year over year.

“I’m not surprised Manteca is in the top 10,” Mayor Steve DeBrum said in a press release. “Over the past couple of decades, Manteca leaders have focused on balanced growth – expanding the city’s residential, commercial and industrial bases. The goal has been to provide quality, affordable housing and local jobs that help build a vibrant community.”

Much of the increased activity is linked to its location, 77 miles east of San Francisco. It is also centrally located within a short drive of Modesto, Stockton and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

While the U-Haul statistics don’t directly correlate to population or economic growth, it is an indicator of how well the city is attracting and keeping residents.

The city ranked above Missoula, Montana which finished 10th in U-Haul’s rankings
