STOCKTON – The unemployment rate continues to drop in the Central Valley. Merced County saw the biggest decline, dropping 1.1 percent from March to April, to 11.6 percent.
The San Joaquin County rate dropped to 8.8 percent in April from 9.4 percent in March while Stanislaus County’s rate dropped from 10.3 percent to 9.8 percent.
Agricultural positions accounted for the majority of the job increase. San Joaquin county, added 2,000 positions as agricultural operations ramp up for the summer season. Merced county added 900 farm positions, making up all of the job gains in that county. In Stanislaus County, farms added the most jobs with 300 new positions, but were closely followed by the hospitality industry with 200 new positions and government with 100 new jobs.
