WASHINGTON — Personal income in the Central Valley rose in 2014 according to data released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Monday.

Stanislaus County led the way with $36,356 in per capita personal income, followed closely by San Joaquin County at $36,136. Merced earners made $33,865. San Joaquin and Stanislaus totals represented a 4.1 and 3.9 percent increase respectively against 2013-14 totals. Merced County registered a 3.3 percent gain.

Much of the increase in income was due to a strong surge in net commuter income, powered by the high-flying Bay Area economy.

Despite the increase, the area still lags behind both the state and national averages. Stanislaus County residents brought in just 73 percent of the state average and 79 percent of the national average income. People living in San Joaquin County earned just 72 percent of the state average and 78 percent of the national average. Merced workers made just 68 percent of the state average and 74 percent of the national average income.
